Capitol Steel Structures is proud to have played a key role in a landmark education project shaping the future of Doral. The company has successfully completed the steel framing for the final phase of J.C. Bermudez Senior High School, marking a major construction milestone in the campus’s transformation into a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment.
This phase required precision, coordination, and an uncompromising focus on safety. The scope included the installation of 16 massive joists weighing 10,000 pounds each—80 total tons of steel—spanning 126 feet, all lifted with a 180-ton crane. In total, 15,800 square feet of steel were installed in just two weeks—one week for joists and one week for decking—completed with zero incidents and zero delays. Through detailed planning and multiple reviews, every lift and installation was executed efficiently and without surprises.
The project has generated strong enthusiasm among students, educators, and community leaders. School Board members, district administrators, and local officials—including the Mayor of Doral—attended the unveiling, underscoring the project’s significance to the community.
Now complete, the expanded campus spans approximately 85,000 square feet, featuring a three-story academic building, 617 student stations, a new gymnasium, black box theater, dance studio, and vocational, technology, and science labs. The project also includes new walkways, a courtyard, additional parking, and renovations to existing buildings. Overall investment is estimated at $35.7 million, reflecting M-DCPS’s commitment to delivering first-class educational facilities.
As Principal Edward Smith noted during the unveiling, the improvements represent a major step forward for students and staff, providing modern spaces designed to support learning, creativity, and community engagement. With construction progressing toward final completion—now anticipated in 2026—the new J.C. Bermudez Senior High School stands as a testament to collaboration, careful planning, and the skilled execution of teams like Capitol Steel Structures. “We are thrilled to deliver a safe and solid steel structure for generations to come” adds Ruben Diaz, CEO Capitol Steel Structures.
This milestone not only celebrates steel in the air, but a shared vision on the ground: building safer, stronger, and more inspiring spaces for the next generation.
